  Southwards – Musique sans frontières

  Flemish workers cross the border, French factories thrum and sigh. Southwards / Musique sans Frontières captures their sweat, their songs, and their homesickness in an explosion of Balkan, Klezmer, and poetry.

  Parallel weaves together the songs of Flemish, Northern French, and English workers. From lacemaking to farm life, from struggle to celebration: three countries sound as one. Centuries-old melodies reveal the surprising similarities of daily life across the border.

  Benauwd van den Bouwulf

  Benauwd van den Bouwulf brings forgotten children’s songs back to life. A children’s choir and local musicians make them dance, ring out, and come alive in surprising ways. From old notes to living room sounds: Flemish tradition sounds playful and close to home.

  War Windows follows the turmoil of battle to the muddy plains of the Yser. Marc Hauman takes you through the First World War with poignant verses, images, and melodies, accompanied by a top ensemble of musicians and in the song tradition of Wannes Van de Velde.

  Only Remembered brings 455 British soldiers behind ‘Nouter Club back into the light. Twelve international musicians translated their stories into new, personal songs. An intimate tribute where history and music meet.

  Along the border where cultures meet, a rich interplay of sounds resonates. Het Grensorkest breathes new life into the traditional dance repertoire of French Vlaanderen and the Westhoek. A collaboration of French and Flemish musicians that revives centuries-old melodies in the present day.

  Rooted: Manen Opzij

  For Rooted: Manen Opzij, four musicians come together around an old legend from the Dranouter region. They play with the clichés of folk and traditional music, translating core themes such as the position of women and discrimination into a contemporary language.

  Modderland is a musical cycling festival that gives a female voice to the landscape of the Great War. Along historical sites in Heuvelland, international female artists perform intimate concerts, interwoven with stories and heritage.
